Questions to Ask Your Doctor

Are you facing surgery?

You are not alone. Millions of people have surgery every year. Most operations are not emergencies. This means you have time to ask your surgeon questions about the procedure, time to decide whether to have it, and if so, when and where.

Four Very Important Questions to Ask Your Physician:

  1. What is causing the problem? The diagnosis is __________?

  2. What treatment is recommended to solve the problem?

  3. How long will physicians use this type of treatment?

  4. What is the next step in treatment after this?

Surgeon's Qualifications
You will want to know that your surgeon is experienced and qualified to perform the operation. Many surgeons are specially trained and certified by a national board of surgeons. Inquire if your surgeon is "board certified."
